HRV (heart-rate variability)-HRV biofeedback is a self-regulation technique that when applied strategically can influence improvements in stress responses.
Additionally, it can improve conditions such as hypertension, COPD, asthma and cravings. emWave, formerly known as HeartMath, teaches heart-centered mindful ease and coherent breathing as a way to affect Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
The program is extremely accessible & affordable. The hook-up involves a simple infra-red plethysmograph attached to the finger or ear and measures blood volume that in turn gives beats per minute and HRV data.
The client is allowed to find a window of voluntary control, theoretically balancing the sympathetic (stress response) and parasympathetic (relaxation response) branches of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). Investigation into the effects of the program have revealed:
Decreases in heart rate
Decrease in chronic stress
Decreases in cravings
Decreases in stress hormones & increases in anti-aging hormones
This is a tool that can be practiced by the client on a regular basis with the accumulated positive changes in emotion. This tool gives the literal “HOW” to the command “RELAX!”
